Alethia Barry - Chair
Ms. Barry is a certified special education teacher with a Specialist Degree in Curriculum/Instruction Management and Administration. Ms. Barry is presently working on her Doctoral degree in Educational Leadership. She was selected elected as the Chair for Clearing the Fog on Autism based on her experience and exposure to children on the Autism spectrum. She is companionate about children and has a sense of awareness to their needs. She exhibits a sense of discipline and focus. Ms. Barry always steps up to the plate and what needs to be done in a timely manner. She has a personal connection to this epidemic as her Goddaughter has been diagnosed with Autism and she takes a very active role in her life and her development.
Sharon Barker - Secretary
Ms. Barker has been personally touched by Autism. Her niece has an Autism diagnosis. She too has taken an active role in the child’s life. I am impressed with her compassion for the cause of curing Autism. She has worked with CFAA as a volunteer since the beginning of the idea. Ms. Barker is a certified special education teacher. She has taught special education for approximately fifteen years. She developed her empathy of Autism after her niece was diagnosed; she began teaching autistic children and discovering effective ways of teaching these children. She too has a master’s degree in special education and educational administration. She is currently working towards her Doctoral degree in Educational Administration.
Sharon Powell - Treasurer
Ms. Powell approached Clearing the Fog About Autism (CFAA) in 2009 when she learned of a friend’s child who had been diagnosed with Autism. I was touched by her concern and desire to educate herself about autism. She wanted to know as much as possible. Ms. Powell appeared motivated by stories of children who had once been diagnosed and no longer showed signs of autism. She has been instrumental in acting as a child advocate and a parent educator. This was one of the many reasons she was elected to the CFAA board as a treasurer. Professionally, Ms. Powell possesses over 20 years experience with Fortune 500 Corporations. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting as well as a Master’s degree in Information Systems Management. Ms. Powell is also a Certified Microsoft Professional.
